TRANSIT STORY

Present and absent, seen and unseen, Transit Story seeks to capture the fleeting trace of human presence within civic infrastructure.

Our Approach

Heavy collaborated with the artist Jill Anhalt to design and fabricate this public art at the Centre Street LRT station for the City of Calgary.

The Opportunity

Thousands of people wait in spontaneous collectivity on the LRT platform, often only vaguely aware of the anonymous presence of others. Each individual shares a brief moment in time and space with others; a temporary moment of belonging. The artist Jill Anhalt wanted to embrace this phenomenon through the design.

Heavy worked with the artist to develop the concept. They wanted an art piece that would allow maximum air-flow from the vent, be transparent so light and air would pass through and add something different to whatever angle you are viewing them from. Thus, each resultant sculpture is of a different colour which changes as you speed-by on the train.
