VEIL AT FIRST LIGHT

One of the largest permanent installations of a single artwork in downtown Seattle, The Veil is changing the way we experience glass art at this immense scale.

Our Approach

Heavy was engaged by developer Westbank to collaborate with glass artist John Hogan on this innovative cladding feature.

The Opportunity

With John Hogan’s vision presented to us, we dove in to the details to bring this complex piece to life.

Positioning each disc, at its particular angle, along the long lines of steel cables was a particular challenge. It required the development of a clasp system to ensure that it would withstand the rainy, windy, and snowy conditions in Seattle’s downtown.

Through the day and seasons, this dynamic feature will continue to reflect light in surprising and delightful ways, both to pedestrians outside and visitors inside the building.
