North Harbor Landscape 2.jpg

Representing the beach through this fun and colourful homage to the Lake Michigan shoreline.

Fully immersive an colourful, the two harbor-front sculptures Heavy had the pleasure of facilitating in East Chicago, Indiana are true examples of placemaking brought to life through PLAN—BUILD™.

The Opportunity

As part of their waterfront revitalization efforts, the City of East Chicago commissioned several public artworks to be completed over the course of a few years. Heavy came on board with Hitchcock Design Group during the conceptual phase to help realize their vision for several recreation-themed public artworks.

The Approach

The leadership team at the City of East Chicago were very much involved in the design process of these features, and Heavy worked diligently to maintain the artistic intent of the project, while keeping everything within scope and budget.

The project features a giant beachball and umbrella, two large roundabout features, a collection of weathering steel zoo animals, and several unique public park features.
